In 1969 land developers Fox & Jacobs purchased the land that is now known as The Colony and found almost instant success
averaging 100 home sales per month. By 1977 the population of the area had grown to 5000 and the town was incorporated. Nicknamed “The City by the Lake” due to its location on the southeastern shores of Lake Lewisville, the towns current population of around 45,000 is expected to reach 75,000 in the next decade.
